Amar Upadhyay reflects on his experience in films versus television, noting that while films are short-term, immersive projects, TV requires long-term commitment. He praises the growth of Gujarati cinema, highlighting its evolving storytelling and success

Amar Upadhyay has been juggling between Films and TV for a while. In a recent chat with mid-day the actor shared that with Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2's shoot, he shall soon be juggling dates for a new Gujarati film. After a successful run of Mom Tane Nahi Samjhai, Amar is determined to venture into Gujarati Cinema, focusing on fresh stories.
Amar shared, "With films, the language is not a barrier. Any film you do is a different experience. Very different from television, because television is a long commitment. And a film is a commitment of about one hour, two hours, three hours film, max. And we shoot in one stretch or two stretches, and just finish off. At the same time, television goes on and on. And Gujarati cinema definitely is evolving in a big way, with a lot of stories coming in. A lot of experiments have been done with the story. And fortunately, they're all doing really well. I think I've just done about two films."
Amar on doing Gujarati films
The Kyunki actor has done only two films till now, "One was with Tiku Talsania, Aao Taru Kari Nakhu in the year 2016. And after that, nothing good came my way, and I was busy with my television commitments. And suddenly, in 2023, when Dharmesh Mehta called me and said that you want to do this film, because I'm casting you with Rashmi Desai for Mom Tane Nahi Samjhai. And Dharmesh has been a really old friend of mine for the last 20 years. He also goes back with Tarak Mehta and everything. We were like friends from the television industry. But we never actually got to work together at that point in time. So with this one, when he was writing the film, he immediately said that this is the role for Amar."
He further added, "And fortunately for the film, it did damn good business. It was accepted by the Gujarati community all over the world so beautifully. And I'm sure people who have missed out and people who have watched it, they will definitely watch it back on ShemarooMe. Because my family has already watched it a couple of times on ShemarooMe."
Amar to juggle between Kyunki and the upcoming film
Amar is set to juggle yet again with Kyunki for his upcoming film, "I've been juggling dates for so many years. So, yeah, definitely. I'm going to do more films. Of course, there is one more in the pipeline. Again, Dharmesh Mehta, who will start around the end of the year. Probably early next year. We're starting in December, Jan, shooting the film. And it's another beautiful story of lawyers. So, it's really touching, a very emotional subject, but very heart-wrenching, amazing stuff that we're going to shoot. And I'm sure people will love the film that we're going to shoot."
