A police constable was injured after a speeding car rammed into a barricade during a late-night nakabandi in the Andheri West area on June 30. The driver, suspected to be under the influence of alcohol, fled the scene while checking for the breathalyser test for drunk driving.
The complainant constable is Tarasingh Rathod, 53, who is posted at the Amboli police station. According to his statement, on the night of June 30, he was on nakabandi duty with fellow officers in front of City Mall, Andheri West, where the incident happened.
A police officer said, “A white car approached the barricade. The officers signalled the driver to stop and provide a breath sample. However, the driver suddenly accelerated and rammed into the metal barricade with force. Rathod, who was standing behind the barricade, was knocked down by the impact. The driver then fled towards the DN Nagar area.”
“Due to the chaos, Rathod was unable to note the vehicle’s registration number. In the complaint, he stated that he sustained injuries on both legs and suffered blunt trauma to his waist. Fellow officers immediately rushed him to Trauma Care Hospital in Jogeshwari for treatment,” a police officer said.
Following the incident, Rathod approached the Amboli police station, where an FIR was registered. Police are tracing the absconding driver.
An officer said, “We have registered a case against the unidentified driver under Sections 134(A), 134(B) of the Motor Vehicles Act and Sections 132, 121(1), 281, and 125(A) of BNS. We are tracing the car driver.”
