New Parliament building row: Maha CM calls inauguration 'greatest tribute to Savarkar and Maharashtrians'

Shinde's remarks come amid several opposition parties boycotting the inauguration insisting that President Droupadi Murmu as head of the state should do the honours. It was also opposed citing that the new Parliament building was inaugurated on the birth anniversary of VD Savarkar, a controversial figure in Indian politics

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Sunday said the inauguration of the new Parliament building in Delhi was the greatest tribute to VD Savarkar and all Maharashtrians, PTI reported.

Shinde further said the political parties which boycotted the event have shown "deep disrespect" to India's democracy and Savarkar, whose 140th birth anniversary is being observed on Sunday.
