In a major boost to public transport in the Chakan industrial region, the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has officially launched a new bus service catering to the area’s workers and residents. The initiative follows sustained efforts and follow-ups by the Federation of Chakan Industries with various government authorities.

The new bus service was inaugurated near NTB International Limited by Kamal Kacholia, Director of the Federation of Chakan Industries.

Mid-Day had earlier highlighted Chakan’s traffic problems in its August 3 edition, reporting how commuters face unruly traffic and poor infrastructure conditions.

“This service will significantly reduce the daily hardships faced by workers in commuting, while also easing traffic congestion and lowering pollution levels in the region,” said Dilip Batwal, CEO of the Federation of Chakan Industries. “We thank PMPML for responding to the needs of the industrial community,” he added.

He further said, “We had been in talks with PMPML, the District Collector, Managing Director, Udyog Mitra, and the State Industry Minister to push for improved transport facilities for industrial workers.”

PMPML officials stated that the service will run on a circular route covering key points including Ambethan Chowk, Alandi Phata, Nighoje Phata, Mercedes Chowk, Skoda Gate No. 1, Sigma Chowk, HP Chowk, Bajaj Company, Mahalunge Kharpadi, Chakan, and back to Ambethan Chowk. Another dedicated route from Bhosari to Nighoje village has also been introduced.

The buses will operate every 30 minutes, and in a progressive step towards gender inclusivity, female conductors will be deployed to ensure the convenience and safety of women commuters.

The new public transport service is expected to benefit thousands of workers, students, and residents who rely on dependable and safe transportation in the rapidly expanding Chakan industrial belt.

Employees working in the Chakan industrial area said that many companies do not provide transport facilities, forcing workers to rely on two-wheelers and shared vehicles. Several mishaps have occurred due to the poor condition of the roads.
