The ongoing heavy monsoon rains has become a realtime test of preparations for the Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027 with officials carrying out detailed inspections across Nashik and TrimbakeshwarAs the 2027 Kumbh Mela is expected to take place during the monsoon season the NashikTrimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela Authority NTKMA is using the current heavy rainfall to assess how infrastructure performs under challenging weather conditionsOn Tuesday NTKMA Commissioner Shekhar Singh led an inspection of important locations in TrimbakeshwarHe was joined by Additional Commissioner Kamlakar Randive Deputy Collector Minakshi Rathod Chief Officer Amol Chaudhari Trimbak Municipal Council Chief Officer Govind Jadhav and other senior officialsThe team visited the proposed Sadhugram ghat areas and other important sites linked to the Kumbh MelaFocus on drainage and flood managementOfficials examined several areas vulnerable to heavy rainfall including Lowlying locations prone to waterlogging Natural stormwater flow Drainage efficiency Flood resilience of the proposed SadhugramThe team also reviewed whether additional drainage systems pumping stations and groundlevel improvements would be needed before the 2027 eventConstruction work on new ghats was also inspected to ensure they are safe accessible and capable of withstanding heavy rainfallRoads and transport routes reviewedOn Wednesday another inspection was carried out across Nashik cityOfficials assessed the condition of major roads junctions railway station approaches and other key routes expected to be used by millions of pilgrims during the Kumbh MelaThe inspection focused on Waterlogging hotspots Traffic congestion Stormwater drains Culverts and road drainage Footpaths Emergency vehicle access Riverfront and crowd management assessedThe inspection team also visited the Godavari riverfront and ghat areasOfficials reviewed river water levels entry and exit points queue management arrangements slippery sections and emergency evacuation routesThe aim was to ensure pilgrims can move safely even during periods of heavy rainSanitation and public health reviewedSanitation facilities were another major focus of the inspectionsOfficials checked proposed locations for temporary toilets assessed the risk of sewage backflow examined solid waste accumulation around drainage points and reviewed access for waste collection vehiclesThe team also evaluated potential public health risks including stagnant water and mosquito breedingImprovements to be made before 2027Based on the findings the NashikTrimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela Authority will introduce locationspecific improvements in coordination with different government departmentsThese measures will focus on Strengthening drainage systems Improving traffic movement Enhancing pedestrian safety Upgrading sanitation facilities Improving emergency response planningNTKMA Commissioner Shekhar Singh said the ongoing rains provide an opportunity to see how infrastructure performs under real conditionsHe said every observation made during the inspections would be used to improve engineering designs and operational planning to ensure a safe efficient and resilient Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027 for pilgrims saints and residents
