With the inaugural edition of the Neeraj Chopra Classic just a day away, its ambassador said that the marquee event has to be made successful so that Indian athletes get a chance to compete with international players.

"I am thinking about my performance, but the event also has to be made successful so that it can be further expanded in the future...So that our Indian athletes also get a chance to compete and our track and field events further elevate," said the two-time Olympic medal winner. Taking to X:

Neeraj Chopra is organising the event with JSW Sports in collaboration with the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) and World Athletics at Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru.

The 27-year-old also said that NC Classic will be an annual sporting event and is hopeful that apart from javelin throw, other sports will also be included in the future in the event.

Chopra also said that despite facing the challenges of making arrangements for food, accommodation and other facilities for athletes, he is enjoying the experience. He also added that his team is doing a great work.

"I competed in Paris Diamond League, headed from there to Ostrava and then I came to Mumbai and there here in Bengaluru. So, travel plus competition and all the thinking about competition and the thought that this has to be taken to the people, so meeting the brands, shootings and brainstorming over minute things - food, accommodation, conveyance for athletes," said the Haryana-born athlete.

"Team is doing great work. There was one challenge, that I had a lot on my mind for a lot of things...This is a new experience and I am enjoying this," he added.

Along with him, Sachin Yadav, Rohit Yadav, Sahil Silwal, and Yashvir Singh will be the other Indian athletes to make their appearance in Bengaluru.
