It's a virtual city of trains that’s coming up underground. In a plan for underground inter-modal connection, the BKC Bullet train is being designed to be integrated with the Mumbai Metro Aqua Line 3, including a 1.1-km underground direct pathway to the underground Metro station near Income Tax junction.
It will also be linked with the ILFS Metro station coming up close to the MTNL at BKC with an on-ground linkway. Merchants from the Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) at BKC had also approached the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) seeking a pathway access to the station, which will also be provided through the ILFS Metro station.
“The station platforms are located about 32 m below the ground. There will be six lines and three 495-m-long platforms. At the terminal end of the platform, an underground pathway is proposed to be directly linked to the Metro Aqua Line 3 station. We have left a knockdown opening structure of 7m x 7m at the terminal end of the BKC Metro station to be linked to the underground Aqua Line Metro for access at a later point. We have sent a plan out to the Metro teams and the MMRDA. The modalities of how this will be done are yet to be finalised, but plans are in place,” a senior NHSRCL official said.
Mumbai Metro Aqua Line 3 had also mentioned that they too had left similar provisions at their BKC underground station for future access to the BKC Bullet train station.
“For the elevated Metro Yellow Line 2B ILFS station, we intend to make a walkway access to it as it is very close. Merchants from the Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) at BKC had also approached us seeking a pathway access to the Bullet train station, which will also be provided through the non-ticketing area of ILFS metro station,” the official added.
Giving an update of the BKC Bullet train station itself, the official said that work of about 20 per cent is complete and the station will be in three tiers, with the bottom most tier having the platform and tracks, the floor above that with concourse, public amenities and the floor above that as a service floor for train operations, which will be at the ground level.
“It is equivalent to a 10-storey building. The interesting part is that the platform will also get covered skylight panels such that the person standing on the lowest floor will also be able to view the sunlight,” he added. The station construction is set for a deadline of September 2027.
