Gauri's newest venture

 >> "The store was empty till two days ago!" said Gauri Khan, her famous large eyes indicating the absurdity of it all. Because now, as we spoke, the environs were crammed with all manner of beautiful things. Funky leather rockers, coffee tables groaning with exquisite bric-a-brac, sofa sets galore, and a King’s ransom of candle stands and lampshades. “Every thing you see here is either designed by me or curated from all over the world. And the price range is really reasonable,” said the attractive star wife, known for her international design sensibility.

It was the preview launch of Design Cell, Khan’s latest home décor intervention and this time it was the other side of the Sea- Link, located in the Raghuvanshi Mills compound, which is now officially the mid-city go to place for home décor solutions. Khan’s pals, Noblesse’s Superna Motwane and DNA’s Shreyasi Goenka had hosted a preview dekho and invited all their friends to come see the store over canapés and wine.

The place was brimming with so many women that it was difficult getting in. We spotted Motwane’s mom Rani Kapur with friend Sheila Pasricha, style scribe Gayatri Rangachari Shah and a few other friends, checking out the wares.
The verdict? Beautiful. But another trip would be required when things got a bit calmer and serious browsing could be undertaken.

“Are you going to be spending more time this side?” we asked Gauri, only half jokingly.

“Not really. Retail isn’t really my thing,” she said. What she didn’t add, of course, was that a certain Mr SRK and his kids located on the other side of town required her attention too.

Growing up with the blues
>> A sweet aside at the Mahindra Blues fest was spotting the affable Owen Roncon, whose company OrangJus had brought the artists down, shyly slipping his kids and wife backstage during Sunday’s gig.

And by the looks of how thrilled they were to be so near the origins of the great music MP Priya Dutt, and her two good-looking progeny were true blue fans.

Of curries and camps
>> One of the highlights of the recently concluded RPG Art Camp at Marwe (besides, of course, Anjali Menon’s preparation of her famous drumsticks curry,) was the AV presentation by participating artists, tracing their artistic evolution. Accompanied by the artist’s lecture it offered a significant overview of their careers and influences from their own perspective.

In its 26th year now, the camp has become a city institution and this year saw the likes of Anjolie Ela Menon, Paresh Maity, Bose Krishnamachari, Jayshree Burman and Riyas Komu amongst others gather together for six days of creativity, fraternity and bonhomie.

And as usual, the finale was a dinner hosted by Neelam and Vickram Sethi and Mala and Harsh Goenka this Saturday at the RPG House where the cognoscenti could meet and exchange thoughts with the artists under the stars and amidst stunning art works.

Of Pink and Navy
>> Quoting legendary Vogue editor Diana Vreeland ‘Pink is the navy blue of India’ seemed a befitting way of expressing the bursts of colour that Maithili Ahluwalia’s Bungalow 8 (named after her maternal grandparent’s iconic pile on Cumballa Hill) created for both the decor, and the pop-up, that it has curated for its upcoming exhibition at the Bistronomie and Kombava cafe in Bandra.

“For the Bistronomie dinner, one can expect to find fuchsia walls with Holi inspired patterns, a medley of grand ballroom-esque chandeliers, perforated metal thalis mixed with shiny white porcelain and Rajasthani puppets that feel human with their flowing turbans,” says the lovely Ahluwalia, fast becoming a fashion icon herself.

But the highlight, of course, is her mother designer Jamini Ahluwalia’s oversized gypsy jewels.

As the wise ones say, be there or be square.

Guess who came for dinner?
>> And word comes in of this bon vivant bachelor whose commitment to living life to its fullest also includes taking up occasional residence way from his sumptuous SoBo bungalow at a five star luxury service apartment, where he can live life King Size. And amidst his high profile guests this weekend were not only a dashing Cabinet minister but also a former beauty queen and actress whose career is really going nowhere.

Did the guests come together? According to our source, the question could be better rephrased to ‘Did the guests leave together? '.
