England skipper Alastair Cook has once again missed out on becoming the youngest to get to 10,000 Test runs and breaking cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar's record after he was dismissed for 15 in the 2nd Test against Sri Lanka in Chester-le-Street on Friday

And the wait is on... England skipper Alastair Cook will have to wait for some more time before he can become the youngest to get to 10,000 Test runs.

After missing out on the milestone in the first Test at Headingly, the opener's wait to join the elite club of cricketers who have scored 10,000 Test runs just got longer after being dismissed for 15 on the opening day of the Durham Test against Sri Lanka.

Cook was left agonizingly 5 runs short of breaking cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar's record of being the youngest to get to the milestone and also of becoming the first English batsman to achieve the feat on Friday and will now have to wait for his turn in the 2nd innings after he was dismissed for 15 in the 2nd Test against Sri Lanka in Chester-le-Street on Friday.

It was a rash shot that stopped Cook from becoming only the 12th player in cricket history to reach the landmark on Friday. Cook looked set before he edged a wide delivery from Suranga Lakmal outside the off stump to be being caught at slip by Dimuth Karunaratne with England at 39-1.

Cook at 31 years, five months and two days would beat Tendulkar's record of 31 years, 10 months and 20 days, which has stood for 11 years since 2005.

If England don't get to bat again in the 2nd innings, Cook's next chance to achieve the 10,00th Test run landmark will come at Lord's -- the 'home of cricket' -- where the third Test starts on June 9.
