IND vs NZ: Bhuvneshwar credits bowling coach Arun for getting his swing back

There have been few Indian pace bowlers who have lost their swing in trying to increase their pace. As a result, they have lost their place in the Indian team. A classic example is Irfan Pathan, who lost his rhythm in pursuit of speed. Irfan fell victim to the advice of many experts when he lost his wicket-taking ability. They suggested him to increase his pace. Thereafter, the more he tried to bowl fast, the more unsuccessful he became. Now, leave alone regaining a place in the Indian team, he went unsold at the last IPL auction.

Another swing bowler, Bhuvneshwar Kumar almost fell victim to such suggestions. When he stopped getting wickets during a poor phase of his career, he was advised to increase his speed. But in doing so, he almost lost the ability to swing the ball. But then, under the watchful eyes of India bowling coach Bharat Arun, he got his mojo back and now has formed a useful partnership in ODIs with Jasprit Bumrah.

"The guidance of Arun Sir has been very valuable. He pin-pointed my drawbacks and gave me important inputs to work on. I've got back my ability to swing the ball despite increasing the pace of my deliveries. There was a point in my career when, in a bid to increase my pace, I was losing the ability to swing the ball. But Arun Sir worked on my rhythm and wrist position," he added.
