Sometimes we need to be more Italian: Roberto Mancini

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini believes sometimes his team needs to play football in the Italian manner so that even if they don't score goals, they make sure they don't concede as well.

"We need to show more attention when we play away from home," The Mirror quoted Mancini, as saying.

"Sometimes we need to be more Italian and make sure that, if we can't win, we don't lose." Mancini was pointing out to his team's wretched away run that saw them lose three - at Sunderland, Everton and Chelsea - and draw one of their last five Premier League matches on the road.

City will play Aston Villa on Sunday and Mancini has called on his men to rediscover that killer instinct as they approach the business end of the campaign.

Mancini said since his team was scoring freely in away matches during the start of the campaign and the opposition teams have been forced to deploy a more negative approach when City plays at their turf, in turn making life tougher for his players.

"When we go away from home now, the teams we play keep all their players behind the ball and so it is difficult," he said. "At the start of the season, it was different. Teams gave us more space and we took advantage."

"In the last two months, our opponents have approached games differently. That is normal because of the results we were getting. We have lost three games away from home -- and we didn't deserve to lose any of them," he said.
