Pakistan cricket legend Wasim Akram's wife Shaniera is making quite a name for herself in the  sub-continent thanks to her philanthropy work and love for her husband's country.

Shaniera, 33, an Australian and mother of three, who regularly posts messages about social awareness and national issues to her 385,000 Twitter followers, on World Mental Health day yesterday, highlighted the issue of mental illness and rubbished the taboo surrounding it.

"Creating more awareness and support will help us combat mental illness in Pakistan head on. #WorldMentalHealthDay. It's Ok to say I'm not Ok," wrote Shaniera in one of her messages. Speaking out against the stigma associated with mental problems, she added: "We fear what we don't understand. Let's break the stigma of mental illness & work together to make the #FearDisappear #WorldMentalHealthDay."

Shaniera's online
messages were well received with many thanking her for taking the initiative to speak out about a problem that is not commonly discussed.

"Your soul is as pretty as you," one follower wrote to Shaniera, who has previously highlighted other civic issues like road safety,
littering and hygiene.
