For years, Mike Vogel had nursed regret over not being able to enlist in the armed forces. But, his wish has come true, albeit in reel life, thanks to his role of a military man in 'The Brave'. The actor reveals why the new show is close to his heart and the reason he took it up. "Both my grandfathers have served in the military and I have friends from the field, too. I always wanted to do something that honoured them. And, this was my chance to tell their story," Vogel says.

He adds that the most difficult part about the job was ensuring that the story was 'accurate'. He agrees that this is only make-believe and the level of difficulty is nothing close to what the men actually face in war situations. "To be honest, we are playing make-believe. You can't compare the two. It may be a little tough, but what the soldiers face in war is much more than we can imagine. Considering the sacrifices they make for us, our freedom, being separated from the people they love, and how they deal with it, I would say the toughest part is making sure we get it accurate."
He adds that while he tried to enlist several times, he didn't get through. The last time, however, his paperwork was almost done, but he chose acting. "I tried to, several times. I wanted to be a fighter pilot and had even got my paperwork ready before I got called for an acting project." Ask him what makes The Brave, which will premiere on AXN on February 9, different from the other armed forces themed shows and he says it keeps the battle on the field. "A lot of the other shows go back and forth from their mission to their story back home. Our creator wanted to showcase what happens when the unit doesn't get to go back home, how it affects them," Vogel adds.
