Aarushi Nigam’s Dream Factory unveils the untold stories of Bollywood’s backstage heroes, earning global acclaim at major film festivals.
Dream Factory
Dream Factory directed and produced by Aarushi Nigam has managed to awe audiences worldwide with its real take on behind the scenes of one of the world's biggest film industry Bollywood. The film presents a non-rose tinted picture of the technicians working day and night in the film business. Thanks to Dai's racy edit, the film's intimate portrayal of the Bollywood workforce is precise and thorough.
The documentary made its world premiere at the Indian Film Festival of Stuttgart, followed by screenings at Dresden Palais Sommer in Germany, the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, the DC South Asian Film Festival in North America, and the River to River Florence Indian Film Festival in Italy. The film was also specially invited by the Indian Embassy in Berlin and showcased at cultural events across German cities.

Aarushi's vision and Anny's edit links the realities that local labour faces on an everyday basis with a resonance nonpareil and universal all at once. The edit has allowed moments of silence, repetition and fatigue to sit alongside quiet pride of B'town. Both Aarushi and Anny's work together has catapulted the film and the people behind the lens who help build India's dream machine - the carpenters, the electricians, the light men, the bouncers, the stuntmen so on and so forth. The restraint in Dai's editing ensures the film doesn't look flamboyant and stays true to its name.
The international screenings of the films were hugely applauded and has brought to notice the tedious, tiring and exacting work that these unsung heroes unflinchingly do behind the camera's glare. Along with the direction, the film's edit has brought the much needed structure and sensitivity that has in turn enabled the film to travel far beyond the precincts of Bollywood almost meandering into the realms of a lasting memory.
