In a country where millions silently struggle with mobility challenges, two entrepreneurs have introduced a Made-in-India solution that promises to transform how immobile patients are lifted and moved - at home, in hospitals, and in clinical care.

Reyhan Rattonsey and Mrinal Chatterjee, co-founders of Adelante Ventures LLP, developed LiftMate, India’s first indigenously designed transfer sling - not as a commercial project, but as a deeply personal response to a real caregiving crisis. Faced with the daily challenge of transferring a loved one, they discovered a shocking truth: India had no safe, reliable solution to help.

“This wasn’t a product we dreamed up in a strategy meeting,” says Rattonsey. “It came from lived experience - from lifting someone we love and realizing there was no safe way to do it. That moment shaped everything. LiftMate began as a necessity at home, and became a solution the country needed.”

What followed was months of research, design refinement, and collaboration with caregivers and healthcare professionals to create a product that is simple, sturdy, and easy to use in the real world.

LiftMate is a lightweight, clinically-informed sling that allows two caregivers to move an immobile patient - from wheelchair to bed, car, stretcher, or toilet - safely and with dignity. It features six reinforced handles, a torso seatbelt, and a leg-lock system, all designed to prevent strain, slipping, or injury during transfers.

Built from washable, breathable fabric and tested to support up to 120 kg, LiftMate is already being used in hospitals, neuro-rehabilitation centers, elder care homes, and by home caregivers across India.

“In hospitals and rehabilitation centers, where staff are often overworked and patients are vulnerable, LiftMate is proving to be a critical tool,” says Chatterjee. “It brings safety, stability, and efficiency to every transfer.”

Designed with empathy. Built with care.
