Actor Parmeet Singh who is creating buzz with his performance in New York theatre circuit talks about his career and more. Read on:

1. How have you managed to get consistent work? This is usually really hard for performing artists in the arts.

Getting work has always been a blessing. I see my craft as the first and foremost priority. I am always focused on optimizing myself as a person and an artist. When I am not in the middle of projects, I am still working, whether that be taking classes or meeting with my mentor or networking - the work is 24/7 x 365.

2. Which project of yours has been especially challenging so far?

My recent project with The Hudson Classical Theatre was very challenging in the way that it required me to sing, dance, fight and act all with a British accent. The thing that helped me the most was consistent work. Taking out time every day to work on all of these elements compounded in no time, and I was able to play and explore when it came time for curtain.

3. What’s the most rewarding aspect of what you do?

Most definitely the people I work with and the moments I share with them. Throughout my career I have witnessed all kinds of human beings and human relationships. I have been blessed with learning a ton about my nature and human nature in general. Acting instils a deep sense of humanity and empathy in my heart.

4. You played title characters i.e. Romeo and Lysander for perhaps the biggest theatre on the east coast, how do you approach something like that as opposed to a reading you will be doing with Tier5 theatre company later this month?

Great question! I believe Shakespear, in some ways, is much different than contemporary work. Firstly, there is a structure in the language that one must acknowledge - it gives the actor volumes of insight into the play, the character and the intention in a scene. Contemporary work, especially a staged reading, requires a strong character, great timing and a hold on the overall theme of the play. You should be willing to explore and play with your impulses in both that is what makes any actor interesting to watch.

5. How was it receiving the best actor award from Tier5 theatre company for your ground-breaking role in ‘Haunt Me’ as Ness? How did it change your career trajectory?

Playing Ness, the leading character, was definitely a mammoth task. I remember spending countless hours just going over the script multiple times to fully explore all aspects in the well-written surreal play. I was dealing with supernatural elements and various different characters all through the lens of PTSD. I ended up doing tons of shadow work but leaving it all behind for the wonder of being in the moment. I was fortunate to receive the award from James, and I immensely value my relationship with the company. I plan on working with them on many projects that are on the horizon

6. You were able to secure some very impressive representation in less than 9 months of graduation. How did you make that possible?

I believe the momentum speaks for itself. There was a time I was juggling three projects all at once. I was able to leverage my professional momentum as well as my clear trajectory to these amazing reps.

7. What is on the horizon?

I have already made plans with Hudson Classical theatre, Tier5 theatre company, The Shakespeare theatre of New Jersey to work on their production in leading roles. I am beyond grateful and excited to take this journey to the next step.
