In conversation with Writer-Director Vishal Chaturvedi.

For Vishal Chaturvedi, Hanuman Ansh is not a calculated career move. It is a deeply personal offering born out of faith and lived experience.

“This film is my seva,” he says with quiet certainty. “It was never about earning. It was about offering.”

When asked about the origin of the project, Vishal traces it back nearly two decades to the time he first felt drawn toward Neem Karoli Baba, lovingly known as Maharaj Ji. That connection, he explains, did not just inspire a film. It reshaped his inner world.

“Behind every frame lies years of reflection, struggle, surrender, and persistence,” he shares. “Filmmaking is not just lights and cameras. It is uncertainty, sacrifice, faith, and patience. For me, every hurdle felt like a piece of learning and devotion.”

The foundation of Hanuman Ansh lies in his book Divine Detour, written in 2024 and published in 2025. In it, Vishal reflects on key moments from Maharaj Ji’s life while also recounting how he personally encountered the sant’s grace 18 years ago.

“That book is very close to my heart,” he says. “It was the first time I tried to articulate how Maharaj Ji entered my life. Hanuman Ansh grows from that very same space.”

Speaking about the making of the film, Vishal acknowledges the producers Ragini S., Namrata G. Singh, and Anupriya A. Nagar, who produced Hanuman Ansh under the banner of SWAMBhu Media Network.

Vishal's devotion extends beyond writing and filmmaking. He has founded a dedicated Clubhouse group with more than 10,000 members from all across the globe for regular Hanuman chalisa recitation for the last five years.

“It keeps me anchored,” he explains. “It’s my way of staying connected to divine power.”

When the conversation turns to global figures associated with Neem Karoli Maharaj Ji, Vishal reflects:

“Is it a coincidence that the top global corporations who shaped the modern world we live in today, were inspired by Maharaj ji in some way or another?

We all know that tech giants such as Steve Jobs, the visionary co-founder of Apple and pioneer of the personal computing revolution; Mark Zuckerberg, the co-founder of Facebook; and Larry Brilliant, former Vice President of Google.org and the epidemiologist who also played a key role in the global eradication of smallpox, those who ushered in technological revolutions came to ‘Kainchi Dham’ Maharaj ji's ashram in northern India seeking answers to their questions…”

Neem Karoli Baba’s influence extended beyond technology. He has also been a spiritual anchor for personalities in cinema and entertainment, including Julia Roberts, the Academy Award-winning Hollywood actress with worldwide acclaim, and Anushka Sharma, among many others.

“But by the time the world began exploring Maharaj ji and speaking about his grace,” Vishal says, “he had already become the guiding force of my life. I had been inspired for years and was quietly dreaming and working as a storyteller to bring his story to the screen.”

When asked how he defines Hanuman Ansh, Vishal pauses before answering.

“It is not just a spiritual film. It is not just a biopic,” he says. “It is an experience.”

An experience of simplicity in a complicated world. A reminder that Maharaj Ji’s teachings were never complex: Love all. Feed all. Chant “Seeta-Raam”.

“No grand discourses,” Vishal adds softly. “Just compassion, service and remembrance.”

With multiple projects now announced on Neem Karoli Baba’s life, including ‘Shree Neem Karoli Baba Ji Maharaj’, ‘Sant’ by Almighty Motion Pictures, and ‘Kainchi Dham’ by Gajendra Singh, some might assume rivalry. Vishal does not.

“I am happy that stories of Neem Karoli Baba are coming out to the public through different perspectives and voices,” he says. “Maharaj Ji belongs to everyone. The more hearts he reaches, the better.”

As the conversation draws to a close, Vishal returns to the thought he began with.

“This film is not made to chase applause,” he says. “ It is my offering to a higher being we may never fully comprehend,” he adds with folded hands.

Hanuman Ansh is set for a theatrical release in June 2026 and is envisioned as part of a trilogy.
