In a powerful demonstration of environmental commitment, Mr. Satendra Singh, Chairman of the Indian Council of Industrial Management (ICIM), inaugurated the Green India Mission at Sri Chaitanya Techno School in Ghaziabad. This special event brought together students, educators, and residents in a shared pledge to protect and nurture the environment.

The program began with a solemn tree plantation ceremony, where Mr. Singh planted the first sapling, marking the symbolic start of the mission. Addressing the gathering, he emphasised that tree planting is not simply an event but a lifelong responsibility.

“A tree is like a child. You must look after it for at least three years until it grows strong enough to survive on its own,” he told the children.

He further advised everyone to ensure trees are planted in spaces where they can be watered regularly, protected from damage, and properly fenced.

One of the highlights of the day was a vibrant Nukkad Natak (street play) presented by the school’s students. Through expressive acting and impactful dialogue, the children showcased some of the most pressing issues of our time, including deforestation, plastic pollution, and the alarming decline of groundwater levels. Their performance captivated the audience and effectively conveyed the message that saving the environment must become a priority for everyone.

Mr. Satendra Singh also spoke about the importance of water conservation, warning that groundwater depletion has reached dangerous levels in many parts of India. He shared practical steps that every household can adopt, such as rainwater harvesting and responsible water use.

“If we do not act today to protect our water resources, we are leaving the next generation with an uncertain and difficult future,” he cautioned.

Equally urgent was his call to end plastic pollution, which he described as “a silent poison damaging our soil, rivers, and oceans.” He encouraged everyone to begin replacing plastic products with eco-friendly alternatives.

After the school activities, the program extended into the community with a lively awareness rally at Gulmohar Society. Students marched through the society, carrying colourful placards and chanting slogans such as “Plant More Trees, Save Life,” “Every Drop Counts,” and “Say No to Plastic.” They distributed pamphlets explaining simple practices to reduce waste, conserve water, and grow more plants at home.

The event was organised meticulously under the guidance of Principal Dr. Udaya Shri and Zonal Dean Mr. Shiva Ji, who ensured that every student actively participated. At Gulmohar Society, A.R.W.A. President Mr. Bhushan Chaudhary and Vice President Mr. Sanjay Chauhan provided excellent support, helping to make the outreach campaign a success.

Mr. Satendra Singh personally appreciated the students for their enthusiasm and creativity. He praised the teachers for instilling strong environmental values in the young generation.

“Education is not complete without respect for nature. When children learn to care for plants and resources today, they grow up into responsible citizens tomorrow,” he said.

More than 50 saplings were planted during the day, and over 300 students participated in activities, including plantation drives, street plays, and an awareness rally. The event also marked the launch of a Plastic-Free Living Campaign and a Water Conservation Pledge, encouraging all attendees to take small, yet meaningful, actions in their daily lives.

In his closing remarks, Mr. Singh delivered an inspiring message:

“This is the moment to choose a better path for our future. Let us all resolve to protect every sapling we plant, conserve every drop of water we use, and refuse plastic wherever possible.”

The launch of the Green India Mission set an example of how collective action, community engagement, and education can create real and lasting change. The enthusiasm of the students, combined with the community's support, has proven that the seeds of a sustainable future are already taking root.

This event was not just about planting trees-it was about planting hope.
