Noted filmmaker J Om Prakash passed away on Wednesday (August 7) morning at 8 AM at the age of 93. Hrithik Roshan's maternal grandfather's last rites were held at a crematorium in Vile Parle. J Om Prakash is best known for directing films such as Aap Ki Kasam, Aakhir Kyon?, Apna Bana Lo, Apnapan, Aasha, Arpan, Aadmi Khilona Hai. He also produced box office hit films like Ayee Milan Ki Bela, Aas Ka Panchhi, Aaye Din Bahar Ke, and many others.

Hrithik Roshan was extremely close to his grandfather. A source close to Hrithik had told mid-day, "Duggu is very close to his naana (but calls him deda) and always picked up stuff for him whenever he's travelling abroad."

In July, Hrithik Roshan had shared a couple of images of himself with his grandfather, calling him his 'super teacher'. He had tweeted: "#MySuperTeacher - My Nana who I lovingly call Deda, for the lessons he has taught me at every stage of my life, which I share with my kids now. And Dr Oza, my speech therapist as a child, who taught me to accept my weakness and helped me overcome my fear of stammer."

As the news broke out, Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra were one of the first few celebs who rushed in to pay their respects to J Om Prakash at his residence in Mumbai.

Amitabh Bachchan also tweeted to offer his condolences and wrote, "J OM PRAKASH ji Producer Director of eminence, passed away this morning .. a kind gentle affable being .. my neighbor, Hrithik's grandfather .. sad !! Prayers for his soul .. [sic]"

Veteran actor Jeetendra in a guest column with mid-day remembered filmmaker J Om Prakash for whom he had been a leading man in several films. The actor wrote, "I did five movies with Omji —Apnapan (1977), Aasha (1980), Apna Bana Lo (1982), Arpan (1983) and Aadmi Khilona Hai (1993). I remember him as a dedicated and hard-working man who knew his job well. He started out as a production manager with Mohan Segal, and then went on to produce films with Mohan Kumar as the director."

Jeetendra further wrote, "What struck me most about him was that he had an ear for music. The first movie that Omji directed, Aap Ki Kasam (1974), had such beautiful songs. Every song from that film is hummed even today. Similarly, his first production, Aas Ka Panchi (1961) had so many hit songs."
