Charu Rohatgi, fondly remembered for her character as Parineeti Chopra's mother in her debut film Ishaqzaade passed away on January 15. The late actress suffered cardiac arrest which resulted in her death. She has worked in Television shows such as Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon 3, Pratigya, Uttaran and others. Apart from Ishaqzaade, Rohatgi has also acted in several other films namely, 15 Park Avenue, No One Killed Jessica, Patiala House and 1920 London.
Ava Mukherjee, known for playing Shah Rukh Khan's grandmother in Devdas passed away on January 17. She was 88. Ava, had played the grandmother onscreen in several films. Ava, Bollywood and ad world's 'favourite grandma' appeared in several television ads playing the synonymous grandma. She also starred in the 2009 oddballs suspense-comedy Detective Nani, where she played a character similar to Agatha Christie's Miss Marple who has an eye for solving mysteries. One of her final appearances on the big screen was in the film 'Darna Zaroori Hai' directed by Ram Gopal Varma.
Karan Paranjpe, who was seen in Dill Mill Gayye, passed away on March 25. Karan was best remembered for his stint in Star One's popular medical drama Dill Mill Gayye as Jignesh. He is survived by his mother. Karan was found dead by his mother. According to reports, Karan suffered a heart attack in his sleep.
Actor Kavi Kumar Azad, who played Dr Hathi in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, died on July 9, after a massive cardiac arrest. He was 46. The actor had respiratory problems.
Veteran actress Rita Bhaduri, who had been a part of the Indian entertainment industry for over three decades, passed away on July 17. Rita was at the Sujay Hospital in Vile Parle. She was fighting a weak kidney and was on dialysis. With a career spanning over five decades, Rita played important supporting parts in movies like Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, Kya Kehna, Dil Vil Pyar Vyar and Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hoon. She also featured in Gujarati movies. On the TV front, her credits include popular shows like Hasratein, Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, Khichdi, Ek Nayi Pehchaan, Amanat, Ek Mahal Ho Sapnon Ka and Kumkum. She was particularly popular for playing roles of a mother or grandmother. She was part of an on-going show Nimki Mukhiya in which she was seen as Imarti Devi, the grandmother of the house.
Renowned filmmaker Kalpana Lajmi died on September 23 at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital (Mumbai). She was 64. Lajmi was suffering from a chronic kidney disease and liver failure. She was on dialysis and had been in and out of the hospital for three years.
Krishna Raj Kapoor, the wife of legendary actor Raj Kapoor, passed away on October 1 due to cardiac arrest. She was 87.
