American television personality David Gest had once hired a hitman for £20,000 to kill Sir Elton John during a California gig in 2003, the former's bodyguard Imad Handi has told The Sun.
Gest apparently sought vengeance over a comment made by the legendary British singer-composer insinuating that he had been gay during his marriage to Liza Minnelli. As per reports, Elton, 70, had joked that he wanted to buy Liza a 'heterosexual husband' as a wedding present to her and David following their marriage in 2002.

Imad, who worked for Gest for 16 years, claimed his rage originated from his own insecurity, and that he had been bisexual, fancying music mogul Simon Cowell for several years.
