2021 saw Hollywood buzzing with some pleasant surprises as well as unexpected shockers. While fans cheered on as Britney Spears' financial conservatorship that has controlled much of her life and finances for more than 13 years ended, the much-loved couple Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello split. Here’s all that had Hollywood buzzing in 2021!

Britney Spears's conservatorship ended- A Los Angeles judge ruled in November that pop star Britney Spears, 39, would see the end of the financial conservatorship that had controlled much of her life and finances for more than 13 years. Her father James P. Spears first petitioned the court for authority over his daughter’s life and finances in 2008, citing her poor mental health and possible substance abuse during a child custody battle. Fans constantly stood by the pop stars side with the #FreeBritney campaign gaining momentum.

BTS’s list of achievements- In what was possibly one of the most important years for K-pop band BTS, the members earned several honours and broke various records. In September the band members were announced as presidential special envoys and issued diplomatic passports. Besides surprising fans with collaborations with artists such as Megan Thee Stallion and Coldplay, they return to the stage after two years with the ‘Permission to Dance on Stage’ concert in Los Angeles. Besides giving a speech of hope to their young fans at the UN General Assembly hall and putting up a performance, they also threw a surprise by launching their Instagram accounts. They also earned a Grammy nomination for their song ‘Butter.’

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West file for divorce- Celebrity couple Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's six-year-long marriage and an eight-year-long love story, came to an end. According to E! News, the reality TV star and her rapper husband decided to go separate ways but were yet to file for divorce in January. The celebrity couple who made their relationship public in April 2012, are parents to four children, seven-year-old North West, five-year-old Saint West, two-year-old Chicago West, and almost 20-month-old Psalm West. The couple's relationship has seen increased pressure in recent months. Kardashian had back in July 2020 spoke up for the first time in public about West's mental health and termed the situation "complicated and painful." Earlier last year, it was reported that though the couple is together, they are not living together.

Bennifer again- Fans were ecstatic as the much-loved couple Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez rekindled their romance. The couple had split in 2004 and treated us to several loved up moments this year.

Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid split- In October, Zayn, Gigi and her mother Yolanda Hadid made headlines after it was claimed that Zayn allegedly struck Yolanda at the family's home outside Philadelphia. Zayn took to Twitter and posted. “As you all know I am a private person and I very much want to create a safe and private space for my daughter (Khai) to grow up in. A place where private family matters aren’t thrown on the world stage for all to poke and pick apart. To protect that space for her, I agreed to not contest claims arising from an argument I had with a family member of my partner’s who entered our home while my partner was away several weeks ago. This was still should be a private matter but it seems for now there is divineness and despite my efforts to restore us to a peaceful environment that will allow me to co-parent my daughter in a way she deserves this has been leaked to the press.”

Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello no more a couple- In another shocker the popular couple Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello parted ways. On November 17, the duo released joint statements on Instagram Stories announcing their split after two years. “Hey guys, we’ve decided to end our romantic relationship, but our love for one another as humans is stronger than ever. We started our relationship as best friends and will continue to be best friends. We so appreciate your support from the beginning and moving forward” The pair had collaborated on the 2019 soundtrack Senorita, around the time which they started dating according to reports.

The wealthiest female musician Rihanna- Rihanna was announced as the richest woman musician in the world with a net worth estimated at $1.7 billion.

Friends Reunion- The Friends reunion, called "The One Where They Get Back Together," streamed after years of anticipation from fans worldwide. The show saw the cast Jennifer Aniston (Rachel), Courteney Cox (Monica), Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe), Matt LeBlanc (Joey), Matthew Perry (Chandler), and David Schwimmer (Ross), returning to the Friends studio, testing their knowledge of the show, revisiting key sets, re-reading their lines, and joining James Corden for an interview in front of a live audience.

Scarlett Johansson and Walt Disney legal battle- The actress sued Disney in August accusing it of breaching her contract when the movie was airing on its Disney+ while it was still showing in cinemas. Later Disney released a statement announcing the matter had been settled "I'm very pleased that we have been able to come to a mutual agreement with Scarlett Johansson regarding Black Widow. We appreciate her contributions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and look forward to working together, including Disney's Tower of Terror," Alan Bergman, content chairman for Disney Studios, said in a statement.

Spiderman breaks records- December brought in pleasant news with Spider-Man: No Way Home becoming the first movie to bring in $1 billion worldwide this year. The film stars Tom Holland as Spiderman, whose identity has now been revealed as Peter Parker.
