Actor James Ransone, best known for his work in The Wire and It: Chapter Two, has passed away at the age of 46. The news of his death has left fans and the entertainment industry in shock. Days after the tragedy, Ransone’s wife, Jamie McPhee, shared a deeply emotional note remembering her husband.

James Ransone dies by suicide


As per TMZ, the actor died by suicide on Friday, December 19, confirmed by the Los Angeles Medical Examiner. The report added the manner of death as suicide by hanging. The Los Angeles Police Department earlier responded to a call at a residence, where they completed a death investigation report. No foul play was suspected.



Days after his tragic demise, James’ wife, Jamie McPhee, penned an emotional note mourning the loss of her husband. Sharing a throwback photo from her pregnancy days, she wrote, “I told you I have loved you 1000 times before, and I know I will love you again. You told me — I need to be more like you, and you need to be more like me — and you were so right. Thank you for giving me the greatest gifts — you, Jack and Violet. We are forever.”

News of Ransone's death prompted an outpouring of condolences on social media. Among those paying tribute was actor Franois Arnaud, a cast member of the HBO Max series Heated Rivalry. He wrote on Instagram: "RIP James Ransone," adding, "Unique actor that I was continuously impressed and inspired by."

About James Ransone

Born in 1979, James Ransone got his first break in the 2002 teen drama Ken Park. A year later, he landed a role in The Wire, as per Variety.

He also starred alongside Alexander Skarsgård in Generation Kill, portraying real-life Marine Cpl. Josh Ray Person across all seven episodes of the HBO miniseries. In 2019, he appeared in It: Chapter Two as the older version of Derry-born limo driver Eddie Kaspbrak. His other film credits include Black Phone 2, V/H/S/85, Small Engine Repair, and What We Found.

Ransone also featured in The Black Phone films, the sequel of which was released earlier this year. Some of his recent TV credits include Seal Team, Poker Face, 50 States of Fright, and The First. He was also seen in Sean Baker’s 2015 breakout film, Tangerine.
