Epic fantasy 'Baahubali: The Conclusion' has set box office records of epic proportions, becoming the first Indian film to cross the Rs 100-crore mark on the day of release

Epic fantasy 'Baahubali: The Conclusion' has set box office records of epic proportions, becoming the first Indian film to cross the Rs 100-crore mark on the day of release. What's more, the war drama breached the triple digit figure on the second day with early trade estimates for Day 3 suggesting the collections would be on par with that of the opening day.
Released across 6,500 screens in India, 'Baahubali 2' collected Rs 121 crore as expected by trade pundits - Rs 41 crore in Hindi, Rs 50 crore in Telugu, Rs 14 crore in Tamil, Rs 12 crore in Kannada and Rs 5 crore in Malayalam.
Distributor-exhibitor Akshaye Rathi says, "Everyone expected a huge opening, but these are insane numbers. There is no stopping this film. Apart from releasing on a holiday weekend, positive word-of-mouth and repeat viewing have ensured that the numbers soar."
Explaining why the collections in Telugu are more than that in Hindi, Rathi says, "Andhra Pradesh has the highest density of screens with shows running from as early as 4:30 am. Even single screens theatres, which normally have four shows, are playing seven a day."
On Day 2, the film collected Rs 100.05 crore, but trade-smiths believe Day 3 will see even bigger numbers. Trade analyst Amod Mehra says, "The film is rewriting the box office history in India. It crossed the three figure mark on a non-festival weekend. Monday being a holiday in most places [for May Day], one can expect the film to do business of nearly Rs 80 crore."
