Hyderabad-based cafe Chiranjeevi Dhaba has been faced with a legal notice for using the superstar's name and likeness. The owner, however, clarified that they received Chiranjeevi’s consent to run the restaurant with his name

Megastar Chiranjeevi is regarded as one of the top actors of the South Indian film industry. Apart from enjoying a huge fanbase online, he has been ruling millions of hearts for decades. Recently, his name made headlines after a Hyderabad-based restaurant, named after the actor, landed in a legal soup. Following a legal notice, the owner of Chiranjeevi Dhaba, located in Nallagandla, confirms receiving a legal notice, adding that he had the actor's permission.

Notably, the dhaba opened in April this year and had recently received a legal notice for using the Telugu star's name and likeness. The owner of the cafe, Ravi Tej, recently took to Instagram to confirm that he had received a notice. In a video, he said, "It’s understandable that he might not have been aware of it earlier, but we firmly believed that once he knew the truth, he would respond positively, and our belief proved absolutely right," claiming that they met Chiranjeevi’s team to sort out the issue.

He started the video by stating that he was going on record to clarify the rumours circulating on social media. He stated that he received a legal notice following the Hyderabad Civil Court's recent order to protect Chiranjeevi’s personality rights, along with nearly 60 other establishments.
He claimed that he was an ardent admirer of the megastar and that he founded the restaurant out of love and respect for him, ‘with good intentions and pure admiration’. He also highlighted that they received Chiranjeevi’s consent to run the restaurant with his name.
The owner also clarified the rumours about cases being filed and some people getting arrested just for using the Vishwambhara star's name or picture. He said that as long as the actor’s reputation isn’t being harmed, ‘there’s nothing to fear’. He concluded the video by thanking Chiranjeevi for understanding and permitting them to run the restaurant in his name.
When Chiranjeevi approached the court for the protection of personality rights
For the unversed, Chiranjeevi had earlier approached the Hyderabad Civil Court seeking protection for his personality and publicity rights. The court responded by granting an ad-interim injunction, which prevents individuals or entities from using his name, image, voice, or likeness for commercial purposes without his consent.
