Telugu film director, Kiran Kumar, more popularly known as KK, has tragically died at a young age on Wednesday, shocking the industry. The filmmaker is well-known for directing Nagarjuna's Kedi, which is often regarded as a film ahead of its time. 

Kiran Kumar dies


The news of his untimely death comes just a few days after the shooting of his upcoming film King Jackie Queen (KJQ) was completed. His death was officially announced by the film's team. According to reports, Kiran had been unwell for the past few days, and his condition kept worsening, leading to his passing away on Wednesday.



KJQ: King Jackie Queen was believed to be his comeback film after 15 years since he directed Nagarjuna's Kedi. The upcoming film has reportedly completed its shoot and is currently in the post-production stage. The Paradise director Srikant Odela had revealed the teaser of KJQ and also heaped praise on KK's style of filmmaking, saying, "Personally I am a big fan of KEDI movie. I still remember watching it in theatres and feeling it was way ahead of its time. After a long gap, This time Kiran sir is coming up with a banger film. KJQ will be a one of its kind film. Congratulations to the team on delivering a crazy teaser and all the best." (sic)

About Kiran Kumar

Kiran Kumar hailed from Ananthapur in Andhra Pradesh. He had completed his B.Tech. before venturing into the cinema. Before making his directorial debut, Kiran worked as an assistant director for N Shankar and K Prakash, son of director K Raghavendra Rao, on the film Bellyful of Dreams.

He came into the spotlight after helming Nagarjuna in Kedi, which marked the filmmaker's debut in 2010. On several occasions, he credited Nagarjuna for giving him his first major break.

Apart from directing films, he had also written dialogues for the Telugu dubbed versions of Sachin: A Billion Dreams, and for Mani Ratnam's films OK Bangaram (O Kadhal Kanmani), Cheliyaa (Kaatru Veliyidai), and Nawab (Chekka Chivantha Vaanam). Besides, he also worked on Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan films as an assistant director.

Filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga of Arjun Reddy and Animal fame had earlier worked with KK, who was his assistant director. KJQ: King Jackie Queen stars Dasara and The Girlfriend actor Dheekshith Shetty, Shashi Odela and Yukti Tareja in lead roles.

Apart from direction, Kiran Kumar tried his hand at acting. He played a CBI officer in Vijay Anthony’s Bhadrakali, a role that received praise.
