Actor-turned-politician Vijay has reiterated his commitment to public service, saying he has “thrown away” his luxurious life to enter politics and serve the people. Addressing a massive crowd after filing his nomination for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) chief urged voters to support his party and give it a chance to govern.

Speaking from his campaign vehicle, Vijay struck an emotional chord with supporters, emphasising that his political journey is rooted in gratitude and responsibility. “I have thrown away my rich life and come here only to repay you,” he said, underlining his decision to step away from a successful film career and dedicate himself fully to politics.
The actor also framed the election as a crucial moment for the state’s future, calling it a decisive choice for the next generation. “We have to save Tamil Nadu,” he said, while launching a sharp attack on the ruling DMK government. Vijay alleged that the state’s current condition was a result of poor governance, adding that people now have the opportunity to choose a better alternative.
Making a direct appeal to voters, Vijay urged them to back TVK in the upcoming polls and vote for the party’s whistle symbol. He stressed that his entry into politics was not driven by personal ambition but by a desire to bring change. Positioning himself as a people’s leader, he told supporters that he was “here only because of you,” reinforcing his image as someone accountable to the public.

Vijay will contest the elections from the Perambur constituency in Chennai, and also from Trichy East, marking his first major electoral test since launching his party. The Tamil Nadu Assembly elections are scheduled to take place on April 23, with counting set for May 4.
