Of late, there has been a visible increase in the tarot card readers in Pune. Catching the pulse of mushrooming tarot readers, here are the do's and don't's in practising the ancient art

How to read the future

Since the last four to five years, there has been significant increase in tarot card readers in the city. Yet only a handful realise the reverence with which the ancient art should be practised, considering eternal forces are involved. Shubhangi Pant, a tarot card reader, shares that people between the ages of 35-50 are most interested in the art. Being a tarot instructor herself, she stresses that mostly women are the major contenders.

“Tarot card only helps in guiding people. When it comes to predictions, they can be made for a short time only. In astrology, one gets to know about the long-term future but with tarot it is only the next 30-90 days that one can predict”, says Pant. Maithilee Kulkarni, another tarot card reader, points out, “Tarot cards focus on the present and recent changes that will help people take decisions faster.”

Tarot is mainly a deck of cards that originated over 500 years ago in northern Italy. Although tarot was first used in a game called triumphs, it was quickly adopted as a tool for divination, and popularised by occult societies such as the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. The early Tarot symbolism was deeply rooted in medieval and renaissance Europe, but over the centuries it has grown to incorporate everything from astrology and kabbalah to runes and I Ching. Today, tarot has gained worldwide popularity.

“Generally people come to me with questions about job change; we predict and tell them when they will get promoted etc or maybe on marital issues. It all depends on what one’s karma has been,” remarks Pant.

Pant added that one should start teaching others only after they have seen 3,000 clients at least. People charge as low as '99 per client which is unfair I feel. One must take between 45 minutes to an hour to cast proper predictions and it must be done in a quiet place only. One should ensure that one visits a tarot card reader by reference only.

Kulkarni adds, “Tarot helps one to take decision in a easier way, it has nothing to do with the person’s strengths or weaknesses and his past.”
