Funnymen Cyrus Broacha and Kunal Vijaykar would like to share a few interesting facts about Indian men who hit 40, who they believe, are a different species. Such are their eccentricities that it deserve a separate act. Later this month, they will present 40 Shades of Grey (Hair), an act inspired by personal experiences and observations of Indian men at 40 and above.

Television host and foodie Vijaykar tells us that the act is an extension of Broacha’s book, The Average Indian Male. It will include stand-up routines, audience participation and some song and dance too. “Ever since Cyrus crossed 40, he has been self examining. It is about how men behave when they reach this age, the problems they face, the psychology behind it; it might sound serious but it isn’t. I turned 40 long ago, but in my head, I am still 25. When men turn 40, they go back in time. They have money, so, they can buy expensive things. I see so many men suddenly buying bikes and fulfilling their college dreams; overseas, men buy red sports cars,” says the comic.

While Broacha will give a first person account, Vijaykar will interrupt him by donning various characters. “As yet, I haven’t fixed on all the characters. One of them is a 40-year-old guy who is trying to figure out his sexual problems. I will also play a woman, who is approached by over 40-year-old men and what does she think about it. The performance is for everyone. You don’t notice these quirks. When we will play it on stage, you will think, ‘Oh sh*t that’s me!’,” he explains.

The performance has been brought on stage by Raëll Padamsee’s Ace Productions. Vijaykar feels that with their stage background, Broacha and he felt they owed it to do this performance in a theatre. “A few years back we did Cyrusitis and it was popular. Raëll had been asking us to return to stage for a while, so we felt, why not with this theme?” feels Vijaykar. “They are such a riot on TV, and we thought it was about time to bring them live on stage. We felt the topic has the right kind of material,” Padamsee tells us excitedly.
