Demanded Rs 7,000 from a furniture showroom's manager to allow him to unload a customer's goods from his tempo
The Yerawada police have arrested two mathadi union workers on charges of trying to extort money from a manager of a furniture company to allow him to unload a customer’s goods at the Panchshil Techpark near Golf Club chowk in Yerawada
last afternoon.
According to the complaint lodged at Yerawada police station by Rajendra Manohar More (39), who works as a manager at the Nilkamal Furniture company at Ishanya Mall in Yerawada, he was supposed to deliver furniture at the Panchshil Techpark.
More had taken a tempo of the furniture and was stopped by the suspects at the gate. “The complaint states that after intercepting the tempo, Ravindra Dnyaneshwar Gaikwad (42), a resident of Gandhinagar in Yerawada and Mohsin Yakub Khan (25), a resident of Jaiprakash Nagar in Yerawada, demanded Rs 7,000 from More to allow him to unload the material.
They also threatened him of dire consequences if he refused to pay the money,” said Assistant Police Inspector C V Jadhav from Yerawada police station.
Gaikwad and Khan have been charged under Section 341 (wrongful restraint) and 385 (putting person in fear of injury in order to commit extortion) of the Indian Penal Code.
Khan has a criminal record and preventive action was taken against him last year under section 151(1) of the Criminal Procedure Code.
