Khandekar’s wife Shabana (32) had registered an FIR against the accused at the Bibwewadi police station. According to the police, Shabana in her complaint, stated that a few days prior to his killing, Khandekar had got into a fistfight with the accused, and had thrashed them after he spotted them passing obscene comments at some women in Bibwewadi.

“Following the fracas, the accused hatched a conspiracy and started keeping a tab on Khandekar’s movements. On Sunday night at 9pm, Khandekar was walking home with his son after purchasing footwear from a local store. The suspects confronted Khandekar and a quarrel ensued. They started thrashing Khandekar with sticks and smashed a big stone on his head. Khandekar was seriously injured in the attack and succumbed to his injuries before he was admitted to Sassoon hospital,” said Police Inspector Shailendra Shinde.

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena leaders Gajanan Kirtikar, Dr Neelam Gorhe, Chandrakant Mokate and others took out a morcha to Bibwewadi police station yesterday to protest against the killing of Khandekar.
