New Delhi: In a shocking incident of violence against senior citizens, a daughter was caught on camera allegedly assaulting her 80-year-old mother here, police said on Monday.

The incident came into light after the video recorded by a neighbour on his cell phone went viral on social media sites. In the video, the 60-year-old daughter is seen slapping her mother, who was sitting in her balcony.

The neighbour also reported the matter to police, following which a police team was sent to the elderly woman's house but a senior police official told IANS that she refused to lodge a complaint against her daughter.

"After looking the police at her apartment the elderly woman was shocked and refused to accept that any such incident happened with her,” a police officer said, adding: “Thus no case was registered against her daughter."

The elderly woman is a widow and lives alone in her fourth floor apartment of the DDA flats in Kalkaji area of south Delhi. Her daughter, also a widow, often visits her house, a police official said.

"We will counsel both the women and ensure that this doesn't happen again," the police official said.
