Four chain-snatching incidents in 48 hrs

A spate of chain-snatching incidents have occurred since Monday, under the jurisdiction of four different police stations around the city.

Gold ornaments collectively valued at Rs 80,000 were snatched by bike-borne miscreants. Interestingly, out of the four reported incidents, two complainants are males, who have been targeted by the chain snatchers.u00a0


In the first case, on Monday, at Kondhwa, Reshma Waydande (48) was robbed of her gold chain worth Rs 20,000 by a youth at 6.30 pm when she was walking on the road. The chain snatcher was later nabbed by the passersby and handed over to the police. The robber was identified as Laxman Landage (22), a resident of Kondhwa.


The second incident took place at Bavdhan when two bikers snatched a gold chain worth Rs 35,000 from Mayur Pawar (24), who was riding his bike at around 11 pm.


“When Pawar was on his way home, two bike-borne youths came from behind and told him that he was not riding the bike properly and, in the process, snatched the gold chain, and fled,” said PSI Parshuram Patil of Hinjewadi police station.

In the third incident, which took place at Kothrud, Kumar Chodhe’s (24) chain, worth Rs 1,000, was robbed by two youths, who approached him near Kokan Express in Kothrud yesterday morning.

In the fourth incident, Chinchwad resident Smita Joshi (53) was robbed of her gold chain after two unidentified youths snatched her gold chain worth Rs 25,000 at Shridhar Nagar in Chinchwad yesterday.u00a0
