Thane: A 35-year-old man allegedly forced his pregnant wife to undergo abortion after which he abandoned her and married another woman, police said today.

Abhishek Natwarlal Chaturvedi, a resident of Bhayander township in Thane, recently forced his pregnant wife to abort the foetus, Navghar police station sub-inspector Prashant Shirke said. He then married another woman at a temple last month by luring her with a promise of getting her a job, he said.

The victim lodged a police complaint against the accused last evening. Subsequently, offences were registered against the man under sections 313 (causing miscarriage without woman's consent), 420 (cheating) and 494 (marrying again during life time of husband or wife) of the IPC, the police officer said adding that a search has been launched to nab the accused.
