The number of Coronavirus positive cases touched 12,759 in India on April 16 and the death toll was over 415, according to the data released by the Union Health Ministry on Thursday. Over 1,500 people have recovered so far from the infection in India.
While Maharashtra has the most number of cases 3,081, Delhi with 1,578 cases was second in the list of most affected places. However, as many as 325 districts in India have no cases of COVID-19, Lav Agrawal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Health, said during a regular media briefing.
Meanwhile, the Centre has released a list of 170 ‘hotspot districts’ which includes six metros – Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru.
Cities such as Jaipur and Agra are also in the list of places where number Coronavirus patients was high. The government said that out of the 170 hotspots, 47 shows cluster outbreaks.
Besides, 207 districts-where the rate of doubling is currently low but which can be potential hotspots-have been classified as 'non-hotspots' or 'white zones'. Apart from this, there are 'green zone' districts with no new confirmed cases in the last 28 days.
According to the Maharashtra health ministry, till April 16, out of the 2,916 cases a total of 2,620 cases were found in both Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) and Pune Metropolitan Region (PMR)
A total of 259 patients have recovered till now in Maharashtra and discharged from hospitals also.
The number of coronavirus cases in Dharavi reached 71 after 11 more people tested positive for the disease in the slum area of Mumbai on Thursday, a civic official said. Of the 11 new cases, four were reported from Mukund Nagar, two each from Social Nagar and Rajiv Nagar, and one each from Sai Raj Nagar, Transit camp and Ramji Chawl localities of Dharavi, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) official said.
