On Tuesday, the tally of coronavirus cases in Mumbai rose to 22,746 with the addition of 1,411 new infections, while 43 more deaths took the toll to 800 in the city, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.

For the third consecutive day, Mumbai recorded over 1,000 coronavirus positive patients. Thirteen new cases were reported in Mahim which included five cases from the New Mahim Police Colony among other residential societies.

According to the BMC, the number of recovered patients crossed the 6,000-mark and jumped to 6,116 after 600 more people were discharged from city hospitals.

A 26-year-old woman from the Mahim fisherman colony was also among the new cases. Three other cases were reported from Dadar taking the total count in the area to 176 cases.

The minister did not speak about the number of deaths of coronavirus patients during the day, but said that Maharashtra's 'doubling rate' (number of days during which cases double) has increased from three days to 14 days.

Meanwhile in Mumbai, apart from working on COVID-19 care centres, BMC is also making preparations to upgrade the hospitals Dedicated For Coronavirus (DCH) and Dedicated Corona Health Centres (DCHC). The DCHs and DCHCs cumulatively have a capacity of 6,130 beds in all private and public sector hospitals.

The Maharashtra government on Tuesday did not offer much relaxations in Mumbai, the COVID-19 red zone, for the fourth phase of the lockdown. However, it indicated that the city can expect some much-needed relief in the future, as it allowed shops, malls, establishments and industries to reopen for maintenance.
