The complaint, filed by a functionary of the Shiv Sena led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, accused the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) of withdrawing funds despite the Election Commission's declaration of the Shinde faction as the legitimate Shiv Sena.
The EOW initiated a preliminary inquiry into the alleged cheating and forgery involved in the withdrawal of party funds and summoned Anil Desai for questioning.
Anil Desai appeared before the EOW at the Mumbai police commissioner's office on Tuesday after having received summons last week.
Desai addressed queries from reporters before entering the EOW office, acknowledging the complaint against the party and confirming his cooperation with the ongoing preliminary inquiry.
Reportedly, EOW also sought help from the Income Tax department in determining the taxpaying organisation for the bank accounts, especially since the ECI's verdict recognised the Shinde faction as the true Sena.
Shiv Sena split in June 2022 following a rebellion led by Eknath Shinde, which resulted in the downfall of the Thackeray-led Maharashtra government.
Subsequently, the Election Commission recognised the Shinde-led faction as the authentic Shiv Sena in February 2023.
