Shiv Sena Shinde faction has started preparations for their Dussehra rally to be held at south Mumbai's Azad Maidan. The rally is scheduled to be addressed by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde
On October 13, the Mumbai civic body, BMC, permitted Shiv Sena UBT to organise its Dussehra rally at Shivaji Park on October 24. Both factions of Sena applied for the same venue this year, but Shinde faction withdrew its claim and BMC officials gave permission to Sena UBT. Last year, the UBT group approached the high court for permission after it was denied by the BMC
The decision by Uddhav Thackeray to arrange the Dussehra rally at Shivaji Park sparked a dispute when both factions of the Shiv Sena applied to the BMC for event permission. A month after the Shiv Sena UBT applied to the G North ward office, the BMC has granted permission to the party to hold the Dussehra rally. An anonymous BMC official stated, "We have authorized the Sena UBT faction for the rally at Shivaji Park.
The city's Guardian minister and a member of the Shinde faction, Deepak Kesarkar, had suggested a few days ago that they might retract their request to host the Dussehra rally at Shivaji Park. Following this, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde confirmed the decision to withdraw the request and, instead, organize the event at either Azad Maidan or Cross Maidan in South Mumbai.
Last year, after BMC denied permission to both groups, the UBT group approached the High court. The high court had granted permission to UBT Sena. Though his party has been split by rebellion led by Shinde, Uddhav aims to carry on the tradition of organising the Dussehra rally at Shivaji Park started by the party founder and his father Bal Thackeray.
