Shashi Tharoor: Shashi Tharoor had a third straight win from Thiruvananthapuram, with 3,33,415 votes over his nearest rival of the BJP. He said he felt like a batsman who has scored a century while his team has lost. "Since 1997, we never had such a good result in Kerala. We are winning 19 and we may as well, all 20 seats. The state has become an exemplar for what the politics of the Congress nationally could be. I just hope we will be able to build from the very disappointing result nationally because ours is the right message for future growth and prosperity in India," he said.
Hema Malini: Hema Malini managed to retain her Lok Sabha seat by a margin of 2,93,471 votes this general election, polling over 96,000 more votes than the 2014 Lok Sabha polls. The actor-politician polled 6,71,293 votes and her nearest rival Kunwar Narendra Singh of Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) got 3,77,622 votes. BJP leader Padam Singh Sharma and the actor's counting agent claimed 499 out of 500 postal ballots were in favour of Hema Malini. Nitin Gadkari: Gadkari comfortably won the Nagpur Lok Sabha seat by a margin of 2,16,009 votes. A former BJP president, Gadkari retained the seat by defeating his nearest Congress rival Nana Patole. Gadkari polled 6,60,221 votes, while Patole got 4,44,212 votes at the end of counting spread over 20 rounds. In 2014, Gadkari had won the Nagpur constituency, which this time voted in the first phase on April 11, by a margin of 2,84,828 votes.
Gautam Gambhir: Gautam Gambhir, in cricketing parlance, hit a century on 'debut', winning his maiden Parliament elections by a massive margin. Rajnath Singh: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has won the Lucknow seat with a margin of 3.4 lakh votes. In 2014, he had won with a margin of 2.72 lakh. Sonia Gandhi: Congress leader Sonia Gandhi won from the Raebareli Lok Sabha seat, defeating her nearest rival, BJP candidate Dinesh Pratap Singh. Gandhi won by a margin of 1,67,178 votes, the Election Commission's website said. While Gandhi got 5,34,918 votes, Singh secured 3,67,740 votes. Amethi, on Thursday, snapped its 39 years long relationship with the Gandhi family. Sonia Gandhi entered politics and won the Amethi seat which she retained till 2004. Rahul Gandhi won the seat in 2004, 2009 and 2014.
Manoj Tiwari: In North East Delhi, the sitting MP and chief of Delhi BJP unit, Manoj Tiwari defeated three-time chief minister Sheila Dikshit by 366102 votes. In 2014, Tiwari had won from North East Delhi, having sizeable Purvanchali and Muslim voters, by defeating AAP's Anand Kumar by 1,44,084 votes while riding on the Modi wave. With Tiwari's stature rising in the party, his performance this time was even better as he defeated Congress veteran and former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit by a margin of 3,66,102 votes.
