A 27-year-old man drowned at Gorai beach on Thursday evening during an outing with three of his friends. The deceased, identified as Sushil Dubey, was a shop owner. According to the cops, the group ventured towards the fishermen’s wharf after which two men stepped into the water during high tide. A large wave then pulled one of them in. His friend jumped in to rescue him but failed. A few fishermen spotted the two and rushed to their rescue.
Four youths from Nalasopara drowned, while three managed to save themselves after they were caught in deep waters and high waves at Kelwa beach. According to Kelwa police sources, seven boys between the age group of 15 to 20 years, from Santosh Bhuvan area in Nalasopara, had gone for a picnic to Kelwa beach near Dadri Pada of Palghar district. Around 2.30 pm, four of them swam into the deep part of the waterbody and got caught in the turbulent current. The four youths suspected to have drowned, have been identified as Deepak Parshuram Chalwadi, 20, Dipesh Pednekar, 17, Kshitij Naik, 15, and Tushar Chipte, 15. The friends were identified as Abhishek Madhav (22) and Ankur Vedkar (17). The incident occurred at Juhu Koliwada near the new jetty, away from Juhu beach where lifeguards are posted in June 2017. It was learnt that there was a group of five to six friends who had come to the beach and two of them were pulled into the currents after they entered the water.
