Warner had walked back after Murali Kartik claimed to have him caught and bowled in the 18th over when the Australian was on 96 but returned to complete his century after the field officials referred the decision to the TV umpire who ruled him not out.
"I knew that Kartik had floored the ball but at the heat of the moment he might have thought that he got it clean. As a team player I had to walk back. But I saw the umpires making consultations and the TV umpire said not out. I think I was lucky today (to score a century)," Warner said at the post-match press conference.
"I am happy that I scored my first IPL century. I am proud of myself but the most satisfying was that my team won today. I want to continue my form and help my side win more matches," he said.
u00a0"Lot of credit goes to coach Greg Shipperd. He is the best batting coach I have ever had," he added. He said the Daredevils have a lot of depth in batting and hoped that they would continue to post big totals in coming matches. "We have a lot of depth in batting. I won't say we are the best batting side but we are one of the best batting sides. We have the luxury that the number eight can even bat. After the top four or five are out we have people who can hit boundaries and score quickly," he said.
Warner refused to be over optimistic that the Daredevils, after today's win, are in a good position to qualify for the semifinals.
Warner also said that he learnt a lot batting at the top of the order with Virender Sehwag. "I grew up watching Sehwag bat and saw him in television destroying bowlers. And now I am batting with him at the other end. It was a nice feeling and I think I have learnt a lot batting with him at the top of the order," he said.
Knightriders all-rounder David Hussey said his side failed to execute their plans and was disappointed to have lost the match. "We have plans A, B and C but we failed to execute them on the field. The total was chaseable but I think it was 10-20 runs more as our bowlers could not bowl the yorkers in the death overs," he conceded.
