World Champion Viswanathan Anand will meet former world championship finalist Vassily Ivanchuk of Ukraine in the fifth round of Amber blindfold and rapid chess tournament here tomorrow.
It's been a sedate start for Anand in the tournament and the Indian ace will be hope to catch up after the first rest day. Anand has four points out of a possible eight in the unique event that features one blindfold and one rapid game in each round.
Russian Vladimir Kramnik Anand's challenger in the world championship match at Bonn in Germany last October leads the combined standings on 5.5 points and is followed by Levon Aronian of Armenia and Alexander Morozevich of Russia who both have five points in their kitty.
With seven rounds or 14 games still to come, Anand's standing in the blindfold is joint seventh and in his favourite variant rapid chess it's joint fifth with an identical score of two points in both sections.
It was a brilliant start for Anand when he tamed Leko in the blindfold game of the first round but thereafter its been a mixed form for the Indian.
Leko had equalised the score winning the return rapid game and Anand's sole victory in the four mini-matches so far have come against Gata Kamsky who was beaten 1.5-0.5 in the second round.
Anand hit a low in the third round against Carlsen and lost by 0.5-1.5 margin and then played out a not-so-eventful draw with Aronian in the fourth round.
