Indian offie first fires 49 off 18 balls and later claims three wickets for 31 runs to beat Chargers by 41 runs
Harbhajan Singh made his presence felt in the third edition of the Indian Premier League when he scored 49 runs off 18 balls, which included 8 boundaries and 2 sixes. Later he claimed three wickets for 31 runs to help Mumbai Indians beat Deccan Chargers by 41 runs at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday.
Harbhajan came in to bat when Mumbai were looking to be bowled out under 150 runs. But Harbhajan's blitzkreig helped Mumbai score 72 runs in the last five overs.
Chasing 173 to win, Chargers struggled right from the beginning. It was Bhajji who got rid of Adam Gilchrist on the second ball of the first over.
Thereafter, Chargers lost wickets at regular intervals and never looked to stay in contention.
Put in to bat, Sachin Tendulkar continued his sublime form with his fourth IPL half century but Mumbai Indians needed a quickfire 18-ball unbeaten 49 from Harbhajan Singh to post a competitive 172 against Deccan Chargers.
Captain Tendulkar, who hit nine fours in his 43-ball 55, stood tall to make his fourth half-century in six matches after his team was asked to take first strike by the defending champions at the D Y Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
A determined and reshuffled Deccan Chargers bowling attack chipped away relentlessly to trigger a collapse before Harbhajan Singh's 18-ball cameo which had eight fours and two sixes helped Mumbai Indians reached a competitive total.
