Former Indian cricket board president Jagmohan Dalmiya is delighted with Bangladesh's clean sweep of New Zealand.

New Zealand were beaten 0-4 by the minnows in a five-match one-day series which ended on Sunday. One game was abandoned due to rain.

Dalmiya was the International Cricket Council president, who was highly instrumental in awarding Test status to Bangladesh in 2000. "The Bangladeshi players have substantiated my claim and you can say it was not a fluke," said Dalmiya. "The team deserved the victory and once they cultivate the winning habit, they can hope to play more matches against the Dhonis, Tendulkars and Sehwags."

Dalmiya was criticised in some quarters for giving Bangladesh full status. Celebrated English writer and commentator Henry Blofeld wrote in 2003: "India generates a huge proportion of the game's global income and he believes they should call the shots. This was surely the main reason that Bangladesh was given full membership of the ICC ufffd which automatically brings with it Test match status ufffd during his reign as ICC chairman. Bangladesh might well give Dalmiya more votes, upon which he could rely if it came to a battle between 'East' and 'West'."
