Scores IPL season III's second ton off 69 balls as Knight Riders lose by 40 runs
David Warner cracked the second century of the Indian Premier League III to help Delhi Daredevils beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 40 runs at the Feroze Shah Kotla Stadium on Monday.
Chasing 178 to win, Knight Riders got off to a disastrous start losing 3 wickets for 21 runs. Sourav Ganguly (5), Mandeep singh (0) and Manoj Tiwary (0) were gone in four overs.
West Indian opener Chris Gayle tried playing big shots, but was brilliantly caught by Amit Mishra on 30.
With four wickets already down, David Hussey could offer little to the struggling Knight Riders' side. Soon he departed while playing an ambitious shot off Umesh Yadav.
There was little left after Hussey's departure. Wickets fell one after the other.
Delhi had won the toss and elected to bat first. Warner notched up the highest score of IPL III, an unbeaten 107 in 69 balls and added 128 runs for the fourth wicket with Paul Collingwood (53 off 45) to resurrect the Daredevils innings after they were tottering at 38 for three at one stage.
Electing to bat, Delhi had a shaky start as they lost three quick wickets - Virender Sehwag (8), Gautam Gambhir (1) and Dinesh Karthik (0) - within three overs but Warner played a devastating knock, bejewelled with nine fours and five sixes to ensure that Delhi reaches a competitive score.
