The decision to drop rape charges against Bangladesh cricketer Rubel Hossain was taken a fortnight ago and has nothing to do with the bowler's heroic performance in the recent World Cup match against England, according to Naznin Akter Happy's advocate, Cumar Debul Dey.

Speaking from Dhaka, Dey said, "I don't know why the actress dropped charges. Maybe, she was under pressure as Rubel is a very influential man and both parties may have reached a compromise.

My client had submitted her undergarments for DNA tests. The police were investigating the case and Happy was seeking justice as she was seduced by Rubel, who promised to marry her," the lawyer added.

Dey admitted that his client's case was "not strong" but she could have got the court's sympathy. So what's next for Rubel and Happy? "Happy is madly in love with this boy, but Rubel is likely to marry another girl.

Happy's family is still willing to accept Rubel as their son-in-law. My advice to both is to get married," Dey said.
