Gambhir could be left out of India's ODI squad

Gautam Gambhir is likely to lose his spot in the one-day team following the lack of communication between the selectors and the team physio. MiD DAY has learnt that the selectors have not been updated on Gambhir's fitness. The left-handed opener is not taking part in the ongoing Bangalore Test due to a knee injury.

The selection committee will meet tomorrow to pick a 15-man squad for the three-match ODI series against Australia.

Bulletin awaited
The medical bulletin of the players would be made available only at the conclusion of the Bangalore Test.

The team management believes Gambhir is not in a position to take part in the one-dayers.

Zaheer Khan is likely to be given a well-deserved rest. There is a big question mark over the fitness of Ishant Sharma, while S Sreesanth is likely to miss the boat for the ODIs. Ashish Nehra, Munaf Patel, Praveen Kumar and Vinay Kumar will form the pace attack.

Big surprise
Mumbai Indians and Delhi opener, Shikhar Dhawan, is most likely to get his first-ever international call up.

The left-hander has been in sparkling form over the last 12 months both for India 'A' as well as his IPL franchise. Meanwhile, Saurabh Tiwary, who enjoyed an impressive IPL season earlier this year, is set to retain his place.

THE LIKELY SQUAD:
Mahendra Singh Dhoni
(captain and wicketkeeper), Sachin Tendulkar,
Virender Sehwag, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Pragyan Ojha, Ashish Nehra, Praveen Kumar, Ravindra Jadeja, Munaf Patel, Vinay Kumar, Saurabh Tiwary,
Shikhar Dhawan
