Ganguly will be back at his famous venue where he performed the iconic shirt-waving act from the dressing room balcony after India’s epic win in 2002 NatWest Series final win. It was here that he also made his Test debut hundred in 1996.

Ganguly has been invited with his wife Dona, but the southpaw is expected to travel alone as his wife would be busy with their daughter Sana’s schooling.
“I am honoured that the MCC has invited me. It is also a privilege to watch an Ashes Test live,” Ganguly told MiD DAY yesterday.

The former India skipper rated England as favourites to clinch the Ashes. “England should win three Test matches. Australia’s problem is their batting,” he said.

Ganguly will be in London again come September. This time he’s invited as part of the all-time best captains of the world. Ganguly will accompany other Indian great skippers — Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar.

From Australia, Steve Waugh, Ricky Ponting and Mark Taylor are expected to attend the event. Sir Vivian Richards, Clive Lloyd and Brian Lara have been shortlisted from West Indies while Imran Khan, Wasim Akram and Inzamam-ul-Haq will grace the occasion from Pakistan. Arjuna Ranatunga and Kumar Sangakkara have been invited from Sri Lankau00a0
