Centuries from Mohit Tanvar and Tejas Chalke propelled Rizvi Springfield (Bandra) to 495 for eight declared against Don Bosco (Matunga) in the Giles Shield under-14 final at the Wankhede Stadium yesterday. Mohit (127) and Tejas (100) put on a 178-run, fifth-wicket partnership to dominate the proceedings on Day Two of the summit clash. Don Bosco, in reply, were in a spot of bother after being reduced to 53 for four at stumps.


Resuming on their overnight score of 272 for four, Mohit and Tejas made a cautious start with conditions favouring the bowlers initially. The Rizvi duo later opened up and runs started flowing easily. Mohit, resuming on 54, completed his third successive century to take his team to lunch at 395 for four. Mohit's 3rd consecutive ton In his last two innings, Mohit had smashed 100 against VN Sule Guruji (Dadar) and an unbeaten 211 against Swami Vivekanand International (Borivli).

Mohit, however, could not hold on to his momentum for a longer period as he holed out to Ayush Sawant at cover off pacer Sahil Jadhav just 13 minutes into the second session of the day's play. Mohit was disappointed with his dismissal. "I wanted to score big, but I am unhappy with the way I got out. I shouldn't have played a rash shot," he said.

In the next over, Rizvi's new batsman Mayank Teotia (1) surrendered to Bosco pacer Zaid Patankar after edging to wicketkeeper Arya Chowkidar. Tejas and Umar Khan, though, steadied the ship for Rizvi with a 52-run partnership for the seventh wicket. D'Britto stars for Bosco For Don Bosco, left-arm spinner Chris D'Britto claimed three for 90, while Zaid, Harsh Mendon, Sahil and Soumil Mhatre picked up one wicket each. Rizvi Springfield had Bosco on the mat straightaway when pacer Faaz Khan removed opener Jyotiraditya Madane (8), who edged to Teotia at second slip. Allan Bavachan (18), Aaryaraj Nikam (5) and Chris D'Britto (2) departed in quick succession to make matters worse for the Matunga school.
