An advisory from the Indian home ministry sent to police has warned that terror groups Al-Qaeda and Lashkar-e-Toiba may be planning strikes against cricket stadiums, particularly during the tournament's finals.

Based on foreign intelligence reports, the ministry this month identified a handful of matches on India's west coast as being most vulnerable to attack, including the final in Mumbai and today's quarterfinal clash in Ahmedabad.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the advisory warned that terrorists from Pakistan might seek to reach India by boat to attack cricket stadiums.

Gujarat security officials said security had been increased from first-round matches, with anti-terrorist squad officers added to the detail for tonight's match.
